What IMPACT evidences is a funded contribution: what changed on the ground, measured against a baseline. It isn't a carbon offset or a BNG unit, it doesn't reduce your own footprint, and it doesn't replace a target of your own.

Each project sits on a UK site we manage and has its own target, so everyone knows what the funding is for.

Baseline

We survey before we touch anything

Our lead ecologist and data analyst set the baseline. Without one, nobody can say what changed or what caused it.

Targets

Ecological or community-based

A wetland moving from Poor to Good condition. Paths that residents asked for. Each target is set from the baseline.

Observe

Rangers, ecological surveys, sensors and field monitoring build a picture of what is happening.

Understand

The evidence is brought together to identify condition, pressure and opportunity.

Act

Management interventions are planned and delivered.

Measure

We return to the same landscape and measure what changed.

Adapt

The next intervention responds to what the evidence tells us.

The purpose of monitoring isn't to create more data. It's to make better decisions, and then to check whether they worked.

Condition today Poor

Years of shade, sediment build-up and nutrient enrichment have done it. Trees have established in the pond itself, rhododendron dominates sections of the bank, and silt has taken much of the open water.

We surveyed it before touching anything and found something to build from: fifteen aquatic invertebrate species, four bat species and more than thirty moths. Clearing rhododendron and thinning trees is done. Desilting comes next.
