Pleasantfield

Our Pleasantfield site sits in the Ayrshire countryside, made famous by Scotland’s most well-known poet, Robert Burns. This 35ha site formerly had woodland over parts of it until at least 1949, when it became predominantly pasture. We will return the land back to a thriving woodland habitat, that will marry biodiversity and informal recreational opportunities with the overarching drive to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Reforestation

At our Pleasantfield site, we are planting 85,000 predominantly native trees with a high productive broadleaf component, to create a diverse carbon rich woodland that exceeds UK Forestry Standard expectations. Explore our Pleasantfield planting plan on our interactive map below.

Biodiversity

At present, the site has very limited biodiversity value, with the oldest hedges to the west of the site being most important, providing food for bird species like the Fieldfare, Redwing and Mistle Thrush. However, through native woodland creation work, the protection of currently degraded wet ditches and streams, and the management of the remaining grassland areas being turned into wildflower meadows, we will greatly enhance the site for biodiversity.

Community

Pleasantfield is located only a few minutes from the major town of Ayr in Scotland. We hope that our site will be used by the public to enjoy the outdoors and reconnect with nature. We plan to do this by creating woodland walks that inspire the senses. Our Pleasantfield site is situated within the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere, we are proud supporters of the Biosphere and hope that our site will provide a valuable place for conservation education.
